1. Southern Flinders Ranges
- Elevation starts at a mere 66 ft (20 m) near the coast to about 2,355 ft (718 m) at the peak of Frypan Hill (most vineyards can be found on the slopes between 1,150 ft (350 m) and 1,800 ft (550 m))
- Region is divided by ‘Goyder’s line of rainfall’, named after the surveyor George W. Goyder (line marks the ‘northern most limits of feasible agriculture)
- Focus on ‘dry grown’ premium quality grapes
- Warm to hot climate is tempered by the cooling effects of elevation and winds crossing the waters of the Gulf
- Best suited for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and particularly known for its premium quality Shiraz with deep color and a rich and robust character
