- Located in the northwest portion of Yolo County, in the foothills of the Coast Range Mountains about 30 miles east of the Napa County
- AVA established in 1993
- Has a Mediterranean climate that is less prone to frost than other parts of the Sacramento Valley
- The summer days are hot, averaging between 95°F and 98°F, but at night the temperatures cool to between 55°F and 65°F
- The soil composition is a gravelly loam in the upper hills, whereas in the valleys it is silty or chalky clay loam over sandstone
- Planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Tempranillo and Viognier
- The largest winery in the Dunnigan Hills is R.H. Phillips
