- Stretches roughly 250 miles along the coastline of California, from San Francisco County in the north to Santa Barbara County in the south, averaging about 25 miles in width
- All of these AVAs are included in the geographic boundaries of the Central Coast AVA with the exceptions of Ben Lomond Mountain AVA and Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, which are surrounded by, but are specifically excluded from, the larger regional AVA
- The region produces almost 15 percent of the state’s total winegrape production and is home to about 360 wineries
- Chardonnay accounts for more than half of the total plantings here
