- The region is bordered by Tyrol (Austria) to the north, by Graubünden (Switzerland) to the north-west and by the Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto to the west and south, respectively
- Extremely mountainous, covering a large part of the Dolomites and the Southern Alps
- The most famous varietals are Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Muller Thurgau, Riesling and Moscato Giallo
- Responsible for Italy’s largest production of Chardonnay
- Produces less than 1% of the national wine production, but accounts for about 10% of grappa production
