- It has the most national parks and fore¬sts of any Italian region — and has been nicknamed “the lung” of Italy
- One DOCG and three DOC wines
- The four DOC produced in Abruzzo are the Contro Guerra, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane (DOCG)
- About 90% of the wine production is red or rosé (not very much rosé) and only 10% white (mostly Trebbiano grapes)
- Montepulcianos here come in two varieties: Rosso (robust) and the lighter Cerasuolo
