1. Riverland

• Region produces nearly 60 percent of South Australia’s grapes (nearly 30 percent of Australia’s grape production)
• Climate is hot with high evaporation rates and low rainfall and also continental, resulting in long sunny days and noticeably cooler nights
• The Murray River is the lifeblood of irrigation for the region
• Much of the grapes are sent onto some of the larger wine companies established in the Barossa Valley, the Hunter Valley, and other regions
• Many of Australia’s bulk and box wines are produced here
• Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Viognier and Riesling
