1. Riverland
- Region produces nearly 60 percent of South Australia’s grapes (nearly 30 percent of Australia’s grape production)
- Climate is hot with high evaporation rates and low rainfall and also continental, resulting in long sunny days and noticeably cooler nights
- The Murray River is the lifeblood of irrigation for the region
- Much of the grapes are sent onto some of the larger wine companies established in the Barossa Valley, the Hunter Valley, and other regions
- Many of Australia’s bulk and box wines are produced here
- Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Viognier and Riesling
