First of all, I still consider myself a student of wine, always learning, even after passing the Wine and Spirits Education Trust Diploma. I thought this would be the end of my wine education but I realize now, my education has only just begun. My education of wine and spirits will be a life long journey and I plan to enjoy the ride.
I first started my interest in wine a number of years ago. An Oral Surgeon I was working for invited me to dinner. He was quite an accomplished cook and an obvious wine lover. He paired a different wine with each course and elaborated about each wine.
Before this evening, if you had asked me what wine taste like, I would have said, “Wine taste like…well, wine.” I never took the time to look beyond the glass. This man opened up a whole new world. I could smell and taste things that I have never experienced with wine before. I was also overwhelmed how the wine changed the food and vise-versa. From that moment I knew I had to find out more about this amazing drink.
The more I talked to people and the more I researched, I found that this whole world of wine was complicated and pretentious. What a shame to have something so amazing and keep it “hidden” and “exclusive” with special vocabulary and complicated themes. Actually, the first time I went to a true wine event with a tasting and discussion forums, I felt like someone forgot to show me the secret handshake.
This site was created to do a number of things. It allows an outlet for this wine lover to write about experiences and knowledge gained in the world of wine. This site is also designed to instill in fellow wine drinkers that wine should be fun and simple, not snobby or exclusive. Wine is for everyone.
My hope is that you increase your knowledge and interest in wine as you navigate around this site and read the blog. Come back often, as Blogs will be updated regularly and static content will evolve as the site grows. I welcome your comments, discussions, and criticisms. Any feedback is welcome. Please share and enjoy. Cheers!
